Ray played this Sonny Rollins standard from 1954* during one of his many guest appearances on the Mike Douglas Show (season 12, episode 115) on February 8, 1974. The footage of this important gig still hasn’t surfaced yet. Who knows more?

* On alto sax maybe? Or did Ray scat some Ja Da, Ja Da, Jing, Jing, Jing?! The melody of Doxy is highly similar to a tune with the improbable title How Can You Get In (When You Get Out), a ditty that Ray played (and to which he sang some not entirely coherent lyrics) with Dizzy Gillespie at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1978 [Uros Peric pointed me at the similarities].
