I Remember Clifford (With The Ray Charles Orchestra)
Album: My Kind Of Jazz, Tangerine 1512. April 1970.
Recorded at RPM International in Los Angeles, from January 1 to 10, 1970. Arranged by Quincy Jones.
Ray Charles – piano; Bobby Bryant, Bill King, Marshall Hunt, Blue Mitchell, trumpets; Glen Childress, Henry Coker, Joe Randazzo, (+ Edward Comegys? or Fred Murrell? or David Phelps?) – trombones; J. Lloyd Miller – alto saxophone, oboe; Curtis Peagler – alto saxophone; Andy Ennis, Albert McQueen, Clifford Scott – tenor saxophones; Leroy Cooper – baritone saxophone; Ben Martin – guitar; Edgar Willis – bass; Ernest Elly – drums.
Through the years, four star trumpeters played the trumpet parts: I guess Blue Mitchell Bobby Bryant* took care of the solo on the album, John Hunt played it in Zurich (on flugelhorn), Johnny Coles in Paris, and Phil Guilbeau in Madrid.
* Wrong guess. Thank you, Jeff Helgesen.
Paris 1969 (trumpet Johnny Coles, track #1):
Madrid 1975 (trumpet Phil Guilbeau at 18’40):
