Roly Poly (aka Back Home) (?)

Album 1949 - 1956 Way

From Billboard, October 11,
1952. Mentioning release of
Sittin’ In With 651: I Can’t
Do No More and Roly Poly.

Single (B): Sittin’ In With, 651, b/w I Can’t Do No More.
Compilation album: The Way I Feel, Proper, 22 Oct 2007.

Recorded in Los Angeles, 1952. Ray Charles – p (?); Rufus Beacham – p; Jack McVea – ts; unknown musicians – g; d.

Ray Charles’ piano playing on this track is doubtful. I Can’t Do No More was originally released as Ray Charles with Rufus Beacham’s Orchestra on the Sittin’ In With label, #651. Roly Poly was released as Back Home under Ray Charles’ name (together with I Can’t Do No More on subsequent re-issues).
During a March 4, 1989 interview, Ray Charles expert Joel Dufour played the track to Ray who did not recognize the piano playing, and said that the name of Rufus Beacham didn’t ring a bell.
