So Soon (With John Henderson)
Unreleased.
When Ray Charles had keyboardist and singer John Henderson in his band, from 1972 to 1974, they developed a routine that I’ve titled So Soon, after the frequently repeated (but rather meaningless) chorus line.
Sometimes it was just a little ditty, used as an intro to What’d Say. Other times Ray turned it into a musical skit, where he jokingly menaced Henderson with all kinds of accusations. And incidentally (as in the Paris 1972 concert) they extended it into a haunted, dark, voodoo-ish blues.
