Talkin’ With Brother Ray

'80 LC PopsUnreleased

Unreleased.

Clipping from Jet.

Talkin’ With Brother Ray was a tune specially written for and performed by Ray Charles at the Evening At Popstaped in the spring (probably May) of 1980, first aired by PBS on 27 July 1980 (repeated on 30 July 1980 and on 16 August 1981).
Ray brought his rhythm section. Drummer Peter Turre recollects: “Curtis Ohlson […] was on bass. […]. We only played 2 or 3 tunes, one of which was a little jazz ditty by ourselves w/o the symphony [orchestra], that Ray made up at rehearsal, and Curtis played the head on bass that I remember to this day.”
